In an official press release sent Tuesday, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced that their Southeast Asia debut event will be UFC Fight Night 34 on Saturday, January 4th from the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Headlining the landmark event is a welterweight fight between #4 ranked Jake Ellenberger and former Strikeforce Champion Tarec Saffiedene.

Also announced for the card, top Japanese fighter Kiichi Kunimoto will make his UFC Octagon debut against South Korea’s Hyun Gyu Lim in a welterweight showdown.

Kiichi “Strasser” Kunimoto (15-5-2 (1) MMA, 0-0 UFC) is making his UFC debut after riding a nice four fight win streak that has seen him finish his last three opponents by submission. Kunimoto has spent the vast majority of his career competing in Japan’s Pancrase organization, although his last four fights have been in Japan’s Heat. The man from Osaka, Japan trains out of the Kobra Kai MMA Dojo.

Hyun “The Ace” Gyu Lim
(12-3-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has found instant success in first two UFC appearances, earning knockout wins over Marcelo Guimaraes and most recently Pascal Krauss at August’s UFC 164. The Korean Top Team representative earned Fight of the Night honors for his first round KO over Krauss. The 6’2″ Lim has a 79″ reach, giving him a significant reach advantage over the shorter, stockier Kunimoto.
